Day 16 - I heart rice & beans

Today we took another trip to Somoto, or actually, past the two-hour trip to Somoto another San Lucas/Mansana to visit my Grandma’s sister (who looks just like her, Pasquala) and Antonio.The cab drove as far as he could, before letting us out to walk the half-hour up the rocky path to Pasqualita’s for coffee (did I mention everyone serves coffee really stong and with loads of sugar) bread, and later lunch (beans, eggs & tortillas).

On the cab ride, the driver showed us all the houses that were built as projects from other countries. The Europe Union, Spain especially, really helped out the area.
Then Antonio stopped by Pasquala’s, and we headed to his place, dinner being rice and beans, (notice the pattern). Antonio’s house and land are gorgeous. He has a little of everything: a horse, three cows, two dogs, loads of chickens and a rooster, huge mango trees and tons of fruits/veggies that I’ve only seen off the branch/vine/dug up.

Life is really rough sometimes...

Antonio gets electricity there (like his neighbors, he just ran a wire from his house to the powerbox on the main road – no need to bother the officials), so we could see the very last episode of “La Tormenta,” the telenovela to which we are all addicted.
