Day 13: Toros in Somoto

This is the last weekend of Somoto’s festival, so Grandma, Ruth, Emilio and Cristofer went up to see the toros (that’s bulls in the Spanish). We arrived during the day, only to realize that all festival events happen at night. So we went to visit Julianna, a family friend (where we would also invite ourselves over for the night.)
Street in Somoto

Store, all the advertisements here are painted, not pasted.

Cowboy hats for sale outside the church.

The outside of the bullring, while we were about four hours early.

We could sneak a peak from between the wooden boards.

The inside of one of the carnival rides. The rides are really scary, mainly because they look about 50 years old and have never been serviced.

The bulls were great. It’s much more like American bull riding than Spanish bullfighting. The bull doesn’t get hurt, except if you count the bull that broke its horn on the opening gate. After the bulls, we went to sleep. If I had gone with someone within 30 years of my age (the 10-year-old doesn’t count), I could have spent the night dancing in the square around the church. Oh well.

The inside of the bullring. It's pieced together from video, so sorry about the blurriness.

Someone getting bucked off:)

I'm sure Seanie would go and dance with you if you asked him :)
