Our first morning making breakfast: bacon, pancakes and syrup.

The group huddle around the map.

I love camp trips because the things that seem so ordinary in everyday life, seem so important and not to be missed on camp trips. For instance, we spotted a loon on the lake today. All three canoes stopped, admired and took photos for like 15 minutes.

The trail we're on is in the "blow down area." Meaning on July 4, 1999, 20 minutes of heavy winds blew down over 20 million trees. The area was (and in some parts, still is) reduced to kindling. In fact, many of the trees we saw had been burned at some point, either through planned fires, or the occasional lightning-started fire. Since some spots are covered with these burned/dead trees, sometimes it's pretty eerie...

And then sometimes it's just pretty.
Tonight we slept in Canada (Quetico) by accident. Fun Fact: Quetico camp sites don't have latrines.
