Austria | Day 5 in Vienna

This morning we woke up to the rain again. It's been raining off and on the whole vacation:) So, we decided to hit a museum and hope sunshine will arrive around lunchtime (we were right, too!).

We choose to go to the Museum of Modern Art (MUMOK), but half the exhibits were closed, including the Pop Art exhibit - which is what I wanted to see. We went anyway, and there was some really weird stuff going on in there. The main exhibits open were on Nouveau Realisme and Viennese Actionism and it looked like slasher/porn movies. If interested in the "free love" art of Austria 60s, just read more about Otto Muehl (not safe for work).

Freud Museum (photo of the postcard). Freud had to leave his home late in life because of Nazis Germany, so the only rooms they have recreated is the entrance and the waiting room. The rest of the museum is just papers and stuff (a bit boring - but it was still pretty cool to be in Freud's consulting room.)

On our way back, we got caught in a huge downpour near Maria Theresia Park, so he ducked under a big circus tent with free admission. The walls were filled with statistics about the European Union.

For the evening events, we decided to hang out in the hostel bar to see if there was any craic (Irish term meaning good time). We met some Aussies (of course) and a Canadian lumberjack (yah, Canada eh), and our bunk mates - an Israeli-American couple. We ended up going to another bar with the Israelis. (Side note: They said Israeli, but one grew up in Seattle, they had strong family ties in the U.S. and they spoke with perfect American accents). It was a small place, but it had a D.J. who played records. The Israelis went home early (about 2am) and we hung out and made immediate friends with the Austrians sitting next to us. The Austrians, of course, spoke perfect English. We ended up going to another bar/dance club afterword called the Down Under, Australian bar and leaving about 4am with no idea how to get to the hostel. So we hailed a cab and were dropped off at the train station. On the three minute walk to the hostel, we saw another bar was open and best part - still serving food! Who serves food at 4:30am in the morning? So we had the special, Wiener Shnitzel and fries and stumbled back to the hostel in daylight.
