Day 5 | Kangaroo Island

Mandy wanted to see Kangaroo Island - "all three types of mammals!"

After a short 90 minute drive from Adelaide & a 44 minute ferry, we got to the Sea lions at Seal Bay.

The sea lions use their back fins like legs, it's extremely cute.

Koala walk. They look like old man teddy bears.

Remarkable Rocks at Flinders Chase National Park. These rocks are made from granite. The orange are lichens, a living organism.

We took turns holding up the Remarkable Rocks.

Fur Seal Party!

Five new things
1. Ordered instant coffee ($2.50) on the ferry out to Kangaroo Island
2. Saw stop one on the Smithsonian evolutionary trail
3. Attempt to find a platypus. Failed.
4. Stood next to sea lions on a beach
5. Saw a kangaroo in the wild!

Also, learned about the special bees on the island. In 1884 Ligurian Bees were introduced to Kangaroo Island to protect their genetic integrity. The government supported this action by passing legislation to proclaim Kangaroo Island a Ligurian Bee Sanctuary in 1885. Kangaroo Island now has the only known colony of pure Ligurian bees left in the world.They export queen bees all the time.

Alco, Echidnas are not hedgehogs. And we couldn't see the little penguins:(
